The inspiration for the Rising Sun Collection comes from both nature and spirit, born of hard times and a need to create the sun, a symbol of new beginnings. From mornings on the Malibu coast and from the timeless wisdom of Buddhist teachings that have guided me through healing and creation.
One of my favorite teachings, shared by Pema Chödrön, has always stayed close to my heart: even when the sky is covered in clouds, the sun has never stopped shining. This eternal truth, that the light is always present, even when hidden, even when we don’t see it, has been a compass for me through many of life’s transitions.
A Pathway to Healing and Creation
When I first began studying Buddhist thought some 10 years ago, I was searching for a way to make sense of endings and new beginnings. Divorce, raising children, and discovering my own voice have been a convoluted path. These teachings gave me solace, reminding me that even when life felt heavy, something bright and unwavering remained within me. It was my choice to believe in a brighter day ahead.
The process of creating jewelry has become another form of this practice. It has become a way to channel resilience, beauty, and quiet strength into form. Designing the Rising Sun Collection felt like weaving those lessons into gold: every ray, every curve a reminder of the light that endures beneath the clouds.
